So is the wider tie in now?
I’d call this middle of the road. It’s not really wide or narrow. This is kind of what’s in right now. It’s silk and cost about $120.

What else are you draped in?
The shirt is by Etro. It was about $250. The shoes are Prada and they were expensive – around $700. But when I get a pair of shoes I wear them to death. The last pair I had were Hugo Boss and I wore them for five years. The pants are part of a Paul Smith suit that was $1,400. That’s where I have to be very thankful for the strong Canadian dollar. A couple years ago you’d probably pay $1,800 for the same thing.

Where did you pick it up?
I work with a personal shopper at Holt Renfrew who’s on the same wavelength as me. The great thing about shopping there is that they have all kinds of functions. They recently had menswear designer Giorgio Canali in.

Sounds swanky.
It was a nice little cocktail party, with a New York jazz pianist.

How do you score those invites?
You buy stuff there!

Are you a fan of fashion magazines?
I read some of them. Some partners and I are starting up a clothing design company of our own, so I use them to research trends. I read North American and British GQ and I look at Details every once in a while.

Are you the only engineer walking around dressed like this?
Engineering is probably not the most fashionable sector of the work world. I’d say my
colleagues dress kind of business casual.

Boxers or briefs?
Boxer-briefs, or whatever they call them. I refuse to wear things that aren’t comfortable.
