Earth Hour, if you recall, was on March 29th of this year. It was a worldwide challenge whose goal was to have as many households as possible power down between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.. The British Columbia winner was North Vancouver, which reduced its consumption by six per cent (the provincial average was two per cent).
Now North Van is taking matters a step further. The City just rolled out a new sustainability section on its website, and it's the biggest chunk of text on there. Are those stealthy North Vancouverites leaving the rest of us in their green wake? The final judgment isn't in yet, but at least they can't hog their secrets. The Age of Information affords us all free access to their site, where there are a number of tips for being more efficient in your energy use.
Here are a couple of the more novel ones:
—Hang a cool, damp cloth over your windows at night to allow breezes to circulate cooler air into the room.
—Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and cool; you'll rely less on an electric fan.
