North Van wins Earth Hour

The results are in, and North Vancouver has taken it. On Earth Hour, where the goal was to have as many households as possible power down between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., energy consumption across British Columbia dropped by an average of two per cent. North Vancouver reduced its consumption by six percent – the best in the province.
Vancouver came third, in a tie with Nanaimo at 3.5 per cent, a full percentage point ahead of Victoria.
According to BC Hydro, the 125 megawatts saved across the province indicate that some 2.5 million lights were turned off. If everyone who participated did the same thing every Saturday night, they say the savings would be enough to power 573 homes for an entire year.
Calgary, many Vancouverites will be pleased to note, was the only city in which power consumption increased during Earth Hour. Organizers there blamed the jump on cold weather and a late start in locally promotions of the global event.

I know, it's difficult to

I was grateful for Google's reminder (their homepage, which looked like a negative of itself), but I have to say that I, too, remembered too late. But I suppose my own disappointment at myself was part of the point of the exercise.

I remembered about earth
By Anonymous, April 1, 2008 at 00:53I remembered about earth hour 10 min late. I also remembered that I had thought I would participate. I looked around me in that moment and laughed. I was standing in the middle of a half-packed house - the moving truck was arriving for the first load in less that 12 hours. There was no way we could stop everything we were doing for earth hour without creating huge stress. I had a moment of gratitude for the luxury of power and continued packing.Congratulations to everyone who participated!
