The hungry bug

This is a bug's-eye view of the destruction the mountain pine beetle is wreaking on British Columbia's forests.

Since 1993, the mountain pine beetle's population has exploded, and the insect is wiping out the mature lodgepole pine trees so important to the province's lumber industry. More than nine million hectares of forest were in an advanced stage of attack from the beetle in 2006 alone.
