I swear to God, there are few things I like as much as this television show, even though Mark Tewksbury—the three-time Olympic medallist swimmer and author of "Inside Out: Straight talk from a gay jock"—has taken over as host. He has an odd manner in front of the camera, and his voice seems to emanate murkily from deep in his throat.
I remember hearing somewhere that hyperactive children can be lulled into a state of near catatonia by television images of large earthmovers, cranes and dump trucks working, and I feel that "How it's made," which is produced in Canada for the Discovery Channel, works the same trick on me. I watch it, and feel an inordinate sense of wonder at the small, forgettable things that populate our lives—the toothbrushes, vacuum bags, bottles and binders.
Below are they explain how plastic bottles, plastic bags, and plastic gasoline canisters are made. Enjoy.
